In this video caregivers will learn about the basic features of a manual wheelchair.

  • Brakes/locks (brake handle extenders)
  • Armrests removable/non removable/swing up and back out of the way
  • Standard footrests (typically- footplate swings up out of the way, lengthen/shorten by push pin, do not elevate)
  • Elevating legrests (typically- footplate swings up out of the way, lengthen/shorten by push pin, have calf pads) Make sure to support the client's leg when lowering the legrest   Use caution not to pinch fingers behind legrest when lowering
