In this video the caregiver will learn how to instruct an individual on performing a (BeasyGlyder) sliding board transfer from a wheelchair into/out of the car.
Process/Verbal Cues Going Into the Car
- Wheel up to the car getting as close a possible
- Place wheelchair at 45 degree angle
- Lock brakes
- Remove armrest next to car
- Put on gait belt
- Assist to push the seat back as needed depending on individuals height, make sure to clear side of door frame with board/disc
- Lean way from the car, placing the sliding board under the buttock and thigh, front of disc should be visible
- Point board in direction headed
- Push down with your hands as you glide, on the disc across, the board Watch individuals head getting into car Caution not to grab the end of the board due to potential to pinch fingers as weight comes across board
- Once bottom is in the seat, bring one leg in at a time
- Remove the board by leaning away from the board, sliding it out from under buttock and thigh
Process/Verbal Cues Coming Out of the Car
- Caregiver place wheelchair next to the car getting as close a possible
- Place wheelchair at 45 degree angle

- Place sliding board under buttock and thigh while leaning away from the wheelchair, front of disc should be visible
- Point board in direction headed
- Push down with your hands as you glide, on the disc, across the board Watch head when getting out of car Caution not to grab the end of the board due to potential to pinch fingers as weight comes across board
- Once bottom is in the seat, bring one leg out at a time, or if client is able, can place lead leg out of the car as glide is initiated, followed by remaining leg
- Remove the board by leaning away from the board, sliding it out from under buttock and thigh
