4.1 Home Stairway Introduction

Here are a few things to consider regarding safety on the stairs:

  1. Recommend not immediately using staircases with multiple steps on return home unless necessary for entry to main living area
  2. Clear all landing and opening areas of stairs
  3. Light switches at top and bottom of stairs easily accessible
  4. Well lit stairs

  6. Keep stairs free of clutter

      8. Recommend at least one rail in good condition 

      9. May need to consider a small grab bar on the wall/door frame by the landing before the first step up or down if the handrail is not                easily reachable on the first step up or down
