TRANSFER: Up in Bed- Transfer Sheet 2 Person

In this video Cindy demonstrates the use of a transfer sheet with handles for scooting a loved one or client up in bed - two person assist.

Things to remember:

  • Always make sure the hospital bed is locked ​
  • Raise the bed to waist level if possible, maintain good body mechanics​
  • Secure/monitor any tubing (ex. catheter, feeding, drainage tubes)​
  • Always instruct the loved one on details of what will be taking place​
  • Establish verbal cues and designate the “call person” as needed(ex. “we will scoot up in bed on the count of 3”, “one”, “two”, “three”)prior to starting the activity​
  • Use bed adjustments to your advantage (head down, foot up for gravity assist as loved one tolerates or MD orders allow)
  • ​Place pillow at head board to protect client's head
  • Perform scooting in increments
  • Maintain good body mechanics
